This beautiful ceramic luminary is handcrafted in a family workshop in the community of San Juan de Oriente, Nicaragua. The intricate geometric designs are etched by hand using a sharpened bicycle spoke. Each luminary is created out of local clay, turned on a kick wheel, hand-painted, and wood-fired in a beehive-shaped kiln. For use with tea light candle or string of electric lights (not included). Approximate size: 4.5" wide x 5" high. Fair trade.
Women of the Cloud Forest has been working in fair trade since 2001. We have direct, long-term relationships with small family workshops and cooperatives in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Peru. In addition to placing consistent orders with our artisan partners, we provide business training and product development/design and we offer no-interest micro-loans and direct grants for workshop capacity building. This holistic approach to business enables our artisan partners to grow their businesses and access new markets without creating cycles of dependency.
